It’s For The Generations To Come

It’s For The Generations To Come

We had an awesome time at the park this year for our family get together. God blessed us with a great day for a cookout. Although it was hot, it didn’t matter, because we hadn’t been together in a year.

When my father was living, he had Alzheimer’s. So we started having cookouts every year…not so much that he would remember who we were, but so that the younger generation would remember who he was.

Just seeing generations of family cooking, and eating, and enjoying one another was amazing. Especially since one of my brothers had come home. My brother hadn’t been home for something like 30 years. He had been gone for so long that it was like having a celebrity in our midst…lol.

To say I am truly grateful to God is an understatement.

My parents were always big on family traditions. We got together at our family home for every holiday, birthday, and family reunion. My mother, especially, wanted all of us to remain close. And I feel blessed to be a part of a family that cares enough to want to keep at least some of our family traditions alive.

When both my parents passed away, my siblings, and I made a promise to do what we could to honor our parents wishes, and for the most part we have done that. Do we always get along? No. Do we always agree? No. Do we have differences and still find a way to love one another. Yes.

And that right there is the most important thing…

God is at the heart of my family…right in that place where my parents used to be. He blesses us individually and collectively. He keeps our family grounded and focused on the whole…not on just a part. That is what has kept us together all of these years, and with the Lord’s help…will keep us together for the generations to come.

Until next time…

Look For The Daily Blessings

Look For The Daily Blessings

Lately, I have been hearing a lot about being blessed suddenly or having unusual blessings. And I got so caught up with looking for these suddenly blessings that I was beginning to overlook the ones God blesses us with daily.

Don’t get me wrong…there are some unexpected, supernatural blessings that definitely need to be acknowledged, and God does those on a daily basis too. But, what I’m talking about is when we look so hard for those type of blessings that we miss how God wakes us up one more day, or how He causes the sun to rise or the wind to blow just enough to give us a cool breeze. I don’t want to take those blessings for granted. I want God to know that I appreciate every blessing.

I am a firm believer that God looks for ways to bless us. Why wouldn’t He? He loves us and just like any good father, He wants to see His children prosper and succeed. Psalm 1:3 says, “He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers.” I want to be like Paul and be content no matter what state I’m in (Phil. 4:11). God knows us and He knows exactly what we need…even though sometimes we believe He moves a little too slow.

I did a google search for what God says are blessings and here are a few scriptures I found:

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.” –Phil. 4:19

Out of His fullness, we have all received grace in place of grace already given.” –John 1:16

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life. You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes; with your right hand you save me.” –Psalm 138:7

I am blessed…we are blessed. Sometimes we just have different ideas about what that really looks like. Daily blessings are all around us. Don’t be so busy that you miss them.

Until next time…

Be blessed!

Getting Used to Opposition

Getting Used to Opposition

This week, I want to talk about those things that try to come against us. I don’t know about you, but I have become used to opposition. When we face opposition, it can either grow us or stop us in our tracks. Opposition can even be a good thing when it causes us to stretch ourselves further than we would normally have gone. Sometimes, it just gives us another reason to praise God, because we know that with great opposition comes even greater blessings.

What happens when the opposition comes from someone we love? When it is a child, a spouse, a relative or even a friend…how do we handle that? We do the only thing we can do—we trust God’s word. The word says, “Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, [and] rivers in the desert.” –Isaiah 43:18

God’s word promises to make a way in the wilderness, and having someone you love and care about as your adversary, definitely feels like being in the wilderness. It can make us question not only our judgment, but also our faith. We question why God would allow those kinds of seasons of pain…and betrayal. But sometimes it’s not even about us at all. Sometimes God just needs someone who is going to represent Him well…in any season.

So, how do we pick up the pieces of our broken hearts and move on? God’s word in Isaiah 43 says that if we keep looking forward…to a new day…a new beginning, and stop dwelling on the past, He will make a way where there seemed to be no way. God has this way of teaching us by allowing those things that sometimes come against us to be stepping stones to where He needs us to be. I’m just so glad that He has our back. That we can call on Him whenever we need Him.

He is the friend that will never get tired of taking our calls.

Until next time…
