It’s For The Generations To Come

It’s For The Generations To Come

We had an awesome time at the park this year for our family get together. God blessed us with a great day for a cookout. Although it was hot, it didn’t matter, because we hadn’t been together in a year.

When my father was living, he had Alzheimer’s. So we started having cookouts every year…not so much that he would remember who we were, but so that the younger generation would remember who he was.

Just seeing generations of family cooking, and eating, and enjoying one another was amazing. Especially since one of my brothers had come home. My brother hadn’t been home for something like 30 years. He had been gone for so long that it was like having a celebrity in our midst…lol.

To say I am truly grateful to God is an understatement.

My parents were always big on family traditions. We got together at our family home for every holiday, birthday, and family reunion. My mother, especially, wanted all of us to remain close. And I feel blessed to be a part of a family that cares enough to want to keep at least some of our family traditions alive.

When both my parents passed away, my siblings, and I made a promise to do what we could to honor our parents wishes, and for the most part we have done that. Do we always get along? No. Do we always agree? No. Do we have differences and still find a way to love one another. Yes.

And that right there is the most important thing…

God is at the heart of my family…right in that place where my parents used to be. He blesses us individually and collectively. He keeps our family grounded and focused on the whole…not on just a part. That is what has kept us together all of these years, and with the Lord’s help…will keep us together for the generations to come.

Until next time…

When Jesus Is In The Room

When Jesus Is In The Room

Sundays are my favorite day of the week. I love going to church. I know we can praise and worship anytime we want, but there is something about praising and worshiping with a group of people who love the Lord like you do. Today, was one of those days. The Spirit of the Lord took over…and that’s exactly what should happen.

We can’t be so tied to tradition that every service is just like every other service, and we shouldn’t want that either. We have to praise like there is nobody but Jesus in the room…

We shouldn’t hold anything back from God because He hasn’t held anything back from us. When it comes down to it…He is the only one we need to please, and the only reason that we do anything anyway. He has done so much, and given so much for us…that praise is the least we can do.

And how about this…our praise is not going to look like anyone else’s and that’s a good thing…it is as unique as we are. God made us all different for a reason.

This week, just open your heart to Him without reservation. He deserves our undivided attention. Our time here on earth is so limited, don’t waste it on things that don’t matter. The way we praise and worship is not as important as acknowledging when Jesus is in the room. Do whatever the Lord leads you to do…and don’t worry about who may be watching.

Until next time…

Make The Most of Every Day

Make The Most of Every Day

I cannot believe that this is the first weekend of July already. I don’t know about you guys, but it seems like time is moving extra fast. It feels like we just celebrated New Years…and before you know it, we’ll be gathering together for Thanksgiving. I’m not complaining though. Whether time is moving fast or slow, I am still here, and for that…I am grateful.

I think I notice how fast time is going when I realize how much time I’m wasting. I know that God will not bring us home until our work here is done. But the thing is…none of us knows when that is. So, we go about life a little haphazardly thinking that everything will magically fall into place. And though God doesn’t need us to agree with the plan He has for our lives, I think we still have a big part to play in how soon it happens.

I believe all of our “left” turns sometimes can delay our destinies. It won’t stop it, but it can definitely make it take a little longer than it has to. God does use those left turns though. During those times, He teaches us how to hear His voice. How to move when He says move, or stay when He says stand still. Nothing with God is ever wasted. The Bible talks about redeeming the time (Ephesians 5:15-18). To live in a way that brings eternal rewards. What that means is that we make the most out of every day doing what pleases the Lord.

So, let’s begin every day by turning our day over to the Lord, and asking Him to order our steps. In that way we won’t worry so much about how many days we have left, we can just make the most out of every day we are given.

Until next time…

Try God

Try God

There is something in the atmosphere. I don’t know how to explain it, but it feels like whatever you want, whatever you have dreamed, whatever decision you need to make…now is the time to go for it. God knows what we stand in need of, what our desires are, and even before we ask He is already setting things in order. And that’s because He put that desire in us. He knows exactly which way we will go…even before we do.

Grateful can’t even begin to express how I feel about the Lord. He is the great I AM. He has been so good that words are just not adequate enough to express it. And even though things are not ideal right now, I know He is still good. I love Him fully, wholly, completely…and because I know that He loves me…I know that if I keep my mind fixed on Him…everything will be alright.

Life is a series of twists and turns, ins and outs, extreme highs, and even lower lows. But God has built us to handle it. God has given us everything we need to live an abundant life in Him. I have had those days when I wanted to give up, but the Spirit of the Lord within me was so strong that I couldn’t quit even if I wanted to. Those things we think are so huge that there’s no way we will be able to make it through, are nothing for God. He has a plan, and He is not going to let even us mess it up.

I thank God for continuing to bless me over and over again…in spite of the things I do at times. The word says that God can do exceedingly and abundantly above what we can even ask or think, and when we put our faith, and our trust in Him, that is exactly what He will do.

This week, don’t be afraid to think big…dream big…and even believe God for big.

Until next time…

Follow the GPS

Follow the GPS

Lateness is definitely one of my pet peeves. Getting to a place 15 minutes beforehand for me is late. I like getting there in time to unwind from the drive, relax, find my seat, and maybe speak to a few people. When you are late, you give up your choices. You have to sit wherever there is room, and sometimes you even become the center of attention, which normally is not what you want.

Every now and then when I am going to a new place, I will use my GPS. Let me tell you…using a GPS, although useful when you don’t know where you’re going, is not the easiest method of finding a destination. It’s hard to keep following the GPS when you know that you are going in the opposite direction of where you want to go, but not knowing enough to go against what the little voice in the box is telling you. I think it’s like that with God. We really don’t  know where we’re going, or what to do most of the time, but we still continue to go our own way…even though He has given us a roadmap in His Word.

We like feeling like we’re in control even though we already know we’re not. We continue to use God like a genie in a bottle. He’s just there to help us when we need it, but most of the time we manage pretty well on our own. Here’s the thing…our shortcomings don’t intimidate Him. He still keeps right on loving us and helping us even though He knows that about us. He is our Provider. He is our Waymaker. He is Lord, and the things we do cannot take away from who He is. He is still Lord, and He always will be.

Every time I use my GPS I remember how much  God loves me, and instead of going my own way, I follow that little voice knowing that even if it takes longer for me to get there…I will get there right on time.

Until next time…
