For the God Who Lives in You

For the God Who Lives in You

Earlier this month we took time out to honor the walk Jesus made to the cross.  This time of year always makes me think of the sacrifice our Lord made.

God loved us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to the cross—for us. He couldn’t bear being separated from us. And because He couldn’t look on our sin, He had to remove it by providing the perfect sacrifice. And when Jesus went back to the Father, He left us a comforter, and His name is Holy Spirit. He is the God who lives in us. Who walks beside us, and Who leads us and guides us.

Only God would do something so amazing. The One who created it all…thought enough of us to do that. The word says, “The Lord called me before my birth. From within the womb he called me by my name…He said to me, `You are my servant’...” (Isaiah 49:1, 3 TLB). I thank God that He called me by name…that He called each of us by name. What He did gave us the ability to dwell with Him…forever.

God called us into being because He has a plan for us. He has given us all unique gifts that only we can do. God has anointed us and called us into service. To represent Him in the earth. In Psalm 139:13 it says, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” We were always on His mind…even before we were born.

I challenge you today to live the best life you have ever lived…for the God who lives in you. Whatever God is calling you to…don’t let anything or anyone stop you. No matter what you do…see it through. There is greater still awaiting you. Don’t be afraid to embrace it.

Until next time…

Be blessed.

I Don’t Want to Follow Tradition Anymore!

I Don’t Want to Follow Tradition Anymore!

Ok. First, I want to apologize for the last two posts. I know it looks like I might be confused, especially since one post said I wouldn’t make any New Year resolutions. And in the next post I said I made five (sigh). But bear with me it will all make sense….

Making New Year resolutions is typically what I always do, and I usually end up abandoning most of the things on my list before I can even get started. This year I didn’t want to do what I have always done. The thing is, I realized that when we don’t set any goals for ourselves there is nothing to shoot for. It’s like, even though we sometimes don’t reach the mark…at least there was an attempt. And if we keep trying, keep striving, maybe one day it will happen. What I know for sure though is that our goals (resolutions) will never happen if we don’t try. That’s definitely not what I wanted.

I just didn’t want tradition to dictate how I live. We sometimes follow along blindly not really understanding why we do things. We just do them because that’s the way it’s always been. I have heard of folks who went through four years of college to get a job they hate, because that’s what their parents, and grandparents did. That’s not living the kind of life God wants for us. He has a special plan just for us, and it may not look like anything anybody else around us has ever done.

That’s what I want. To leave myself open to God. And if it strays from my list…that’s perfectly okay. That doesn’t mean that I will never have those things, it just means I want to follow God more than I want to follow my list. And the five things that I listed…well, they will all help me be a better servant for the Lord.

I think this time He will help me get there.

Until next time…

Be blessed!

A Good Steward

A Good Steward

Being a good steward is important to me. Recently I was reminded that everything belongs to God, and He basically allows us the opportunity to manage it.

It’s like the story of the talents in Matthew 25. The master was going out of town, and he left the talents with his servants, and only two of the three did a good job of managing what he had been given. The third man was afraid, and ended up doing nothing…and that was exactly what he received…nothing.

When I think about it that way, it makes me sad that I may be letting God down. It’s not that I am frivolous in my spending, or purposely wasteful, but by not consciously thinking about the things I spend my money on I am being careless with the things God has…and is trusting me with. When I started looking at how I was “managing” what God has given me…I saw how incompetent I am at times. I make sure my bills are paid, but then the rest of the time it’s like throwing money right out the window. When I look back at what I did with my money…I can’t really trace it. But I am determined to change that.

Studies show that it can take anywhere from two to eight months to make or break a habit, and I am confident that I will have the victory. I have to be just as determined to keep trying as I have been to keep spending. The desire to do it is there, and the Bible says that if we delight ourselves in the Lord, He will give us the desires of our heart (Psalm 37). That seals it for me.

Ok, so now that God has me on board, I have to really work on getting my house in order. That means coming up with a plan to track my spending. I know it is not going to be easy, but I also know that God will never lead us down a path to a dead end. He will help me every step of the way. This whole experience is bringing me closer to God, and now that I think of it…maybe that was His purpose all along.

Until next time…
